Entry 285

It is marvelous to watch on television the rings of Saturn close; and to speculate on what we may find at galaxy's edge. But in the process, we have lost the human element; not to mention the high hope of those quaint days when flight would create "one world." Instead of one world, we have "star wars," and a future in which dumb dented human toys will drift mindlessly about the cosmos long after our small planet's dead.
Gore Vidal

Our sun is one of 100 billion stars in our galaxy. Our galaxy is one of billions of galaxies populating the universe. It would be the height of presumption to think that we are the only living things in that enormous immensity.
Werner von Braun

Extraterrestrial powers do exist, and they are more powerful than previously thought. I’m not authorized to give you any more details on the issue.
Werner von Braun

Also, there is the fear that there is an afterlife but no one will know where it's being held.
Woody Allen

Personally, I would be delighted if there were a life after death, especially if it permitted me to continue to learn about this world and others, if it gave me a chance to discover how history turns out.
Carl Sagan

Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside us while we live.
Norman Cousins

Life is pleasant. Death is peaceful. It's the transition that's troublesome.
Isaac Asimov

Entry 283

I write to keep from going mad from the contradictions I find among mankind - and to work some of those contradictions out for myself.
Michel de Montaigne

If there is such a thing as a good marriage, it is because it resembles friendship rather than love.
Michel de Montaigne

The ceaseless labour of your life is to build the house of death.
Michel de Montaigne

Rejoice in the things that are present; all else is beyond thee.
Michel de Montaigne
